100 Word Challenge – Common

Standard
100 Word Challenge – Common

This was a challenge to write exactly 100 words either using the word common,  or any form of the word, as one of the 100, or using common as a prompt and implying it in the 100 words.  I have written this poem using common as the title.  It is based on someone’s reaction to my presence at an event a long time ago.

Common

No knew more than me
That I didn’t belong here
That I was in the wrong place
That a terrible mistake had been made

No-one wanted me away from here
More than me myself
No-one wanted me to disappear more than me
As distrusting eyes followed me around the room
Furious

He looked at me and said
Well she is a bit common
Like I wasn’t even there
Like I couldn’t hear his
Sneer or see his curled lip
As he glanced at me like the
Underside of his shoe
After he’d stepped in something
Unpleasant
Like his face

100 Word Challenge – Risk

100 Word Challenge – Risk

I haven’t done one of these for a while as everything’s been crazy work and rehearsal wise. Do please do come see me play Richard III, amongst others, in Shakespeare War Play if you can!  This is a challenge to write exactly 100 words either using the word risk,  or any form of the word, as one of the 100, or using risk as a prompt and implying it in the 100 words.  I have written this drabble using risk as a prompt.

Spare Room

You’re moving out? Tomorrow! What am I supposed to do? Well yes I know I can get someone else in, but that’s not going to happen straight away. I’ll have to live by myself for about a month. Anything could happen. One of the bulbs could go out and I could trip over in the dark and crack my head. I might be cooking tea and the doorbell rings and before I know it the house has burnt down. You can’t leave me! What do you mean this is exactly why? Most accidents occur at home you know. Risky place.

100 Word Challenge: Demon

100 Word Challenge: Demon

This is a 100 word challenge using the word “demon” for inspiration, writing 100 words exactly – no more, no less. I could either use the word – or any form of the word – as one of my 100, or it could be implied.

I have written this piece of microfiction using “demon” as inspiration.

Even if it killed us both

When he left I was heartbroken. Distraught. Couldn’t deal with it. He was my first. My only. I had to get him back. Even if it killed us both.

Her black eyes shone as she handed me the bag and gave me instructions. I had to follow them exactly, or who knew what could happen.

There was a whimper when I took my virgin’s blood, ear splitting bangs when I burnt my offerings.

And now he’s here. Standing on my doorstep, mouth smeared in blood, reeking of death.

I had to get him back. Even if it killed us both.

100 Word Challenge: Divine

100 Word Challenge: Divine

This week’s 100 word challenge was to write 100 Words – no more, no less using “divine” for inspiration. I could either use the word – or any form of the word – as one of my 100, or it could be implied.

**********************************************************************************************************************************************

The Divine

I am male
I am female
I am one
I am many
I am true
I am false

People kill for me
People die for me

Does it make me happy?
They say it does
Does it make me sad?
They say it does

I am omnipotent
Absolute control
I am helpless
Pained by your pain

I am what you made me
What you believed in
What you needed me to be
What you said I was

No matter how much you know
How much you feel in your heart
The absolute indisputable truth

Do you really know for sure?

100 Word Challenge: Karaoke

100 Word Challenge: Karaoke

This week’s 100 word challenge was to write 100 Words – no more, no less using “karaoke” for inspiration. I could either use the word – or any form of the word – as one of my 100, or it could be implied.

Haunted by Beauty

Empty orchestra. “Hauntingly beautiful” Ted Mosby said. My memories of karaoke bars are not beautiful. Haunting, maybe.

One that stands out is an afternoon spent with a friend. He wanted to go in the new (tacky) karaoke bar to see what it was like.

He walked up to the scowling lad behind the bar and said “excuse me, do you have a wine list”.

The barman rolled his eyes and stared at my (very well groomed) friend before responding “err, no”.

“This is not our kind of place” he told me, running out of the door.

100 Word Challenge: Weather

100 Word Challenge: Weather

So between moving house and everything the thirty day writing challenge for June kinda fell by the wayside.  I don’t like the thought of doing it in a 31 day month, because it jars on me, so I’ve postponed it until September.  In the meantime though, here’s a 100 word challenge I saw here.  The challenge was to write 100 Words – no more, no less using “weather” for inspiration, . I could either use the word – or any form of the word – as one of my 100, or it could be implied.

The weather will change but whether you live this end or that, the Canal is wet

I am a Loiner who lives in Liverpool. I still work in Leeds. So I travel between the two cities quite a bit. They are just less than 75 miles apart. They are also, apparently, in different seasons. Last weekend was spent in the sun. Last week I stepped off the train in Leeds into icy gales and several people wrapped up in hats, scarves and gloves, in June. This weekend was spent in the sun. There seems to be only one conclusion. The home country is cross with me for leaving and the Yorkshire chill is seeking me out.
