As One Door Closes

Standard
Cards are signed, sealed and handed out
Empty chairs and piles of paperwork
Things are lost, never to be found
No-one to sort through the chaos left behind

There were tears
And hugs
And pictures that preserve the past forever

Too many goodbyes
Too much cake
Too much everything

Mouthwash flavoured shots
Cigarettes passed around
Bags and coats carelessly abandoned

But another day will come
When all will be forgotten
Things will be replaced
And everything will be as it was before
But never quite the same again

The tears will dry
And the pictures will evoke nothing but fond memories

Because when all is done
It’s never the end
It’s only ever the beginning
